Is Voltorb Possessed?!

Welcome to PokéBlog! Your #1 source for facts, theories and more!

Looking at Voltorb, we all notice something vaguely familiar, the fact that Voltorb is basically a Pokéball...

Another commonly noted familiarity seen in Voltorb is the eyes it shares with haunter.
This has sparked some major discussion in the Pokémon fandom. A popular theory, which I am going to discuss today, is that Voltorb is a Pokéball possessed by a Haunter.
The reasoning behind this theory is actually quite... reasonable!

Haunter possessed the Pokéball, but in the process Haunter became trapped and attempted to escape by banging around inside. Instead of escaping... Haunter caused the button to fall off the Pokéball! Haunter became enraged which is the reason Voltorb has such a furious temper. And, whenever Voltorb explodes, that is Haunter attempting to escape.

But how does this theory hold up?

Well, after a little digging, I found that Voltorb's card artist... was also Haunter's, which explains why the eyes are similar. As well, Voltorb is based on a phenomenon called ball lightning, a white or red ball of electricity which explodes unpredictably.

In the end, Voltorb is probably NOT a possessed Pokéball but the similarities are kinda spooky and funny, so I hope you enjoyed. Share your thoughts on this theory in the comments below!
